Authorities are trying to identify a driver who sprayed another motorist with an “unknown aerosol spray” during a road rage incident near Spring Grove.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 5:15 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Route 12 and Wilmot Road in unincorporated Spring Grove.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Emily Matusek said deputies responded to a call for a possible altercation in the roadway involving two men.
Matusek said deputies arrived and found a driver of a white Nissan Rogue standing by at the intersection.
The driver of the Nissan reported a road rage incident involving a male driver of a white Saturn Vue.
The man told deputies the driver of the Saturn sprayed him with an unknown aerosol spray, Matusek said. The driver of the Saturn then fled the scene.
The driver of the Nissan declined medical attention. A description of the Saturn Vue driver was taken for follow-up, Matusek added.
The victim told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the driver of the Saturn was on his phone while driving and nearly rear-ended several vehicles.
When the two pulled up next to each other, the victim said the driver of the Saturn sprayed him with the aerosol after he told him to “stay off your phone.”
When the victim tried to record the man, the driver of the Saturn got out of his car and allegedly scratched the victim’s car hood and then sprayed him again.
Anyone with information regarding the incident or the driver of the white Saturn Vue is asked to contact McHenry County Sheriff’s Office at 815-338-2144.
