Officers arrested a Mexican national last week after discovering six pounds of marijuana in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Libertyville, authorities said.

Irving E. Galvez-Ruiz, 28, of the 200 block of Laguna De Pastores in Colima, Mexico, was charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver 2000-5000 grams of cannabis and unlawful possession of 2000-5000 grams of cannabis.

A police officer was on patrol around 10 a.m. on October 15 when they observed a vehicle turn westbound onto Crane Boulevard from Dawes Street without a turn signal.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with the driver, identified as Galvez-Ruiz.

While speaking with Galvez-Ruiz, officers detected the odor of raw cannabis coming from the vehicle, according to the Libertyville Police Department.

Officers searched the vehicle and located approximately six pounds of cannabis.

Galvez-Ruiz was placed under arrest and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where he was processed.

Police also cited Galvez-Ruiz for failure to signal when required and seized a 2003 BMW 530i he was driving, court records show.

Galvez-Ruiz attended a bond hearing where a judge ordered him held on a $250,000 bond.

He remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $25,000 cash in order to be released.
