Police are seeking information from the public on three suspects who burglarized a home in Libertyville and were interrupted by the homeowner.

The Libertyville Police Department responded around 3:37 p.m. on October 18 to the 700 block of Ascot Court in Libertyville for a report of a burglary.

Officers learned a subject approached the front door of the residence and claimed to be there to inspect the water for dangerous bacteria, the police department said.

While one of the homeowners was distracted by escorting the subject to his backyard, two additional suspects entered the home.

The two suspects encountered the second homeowner, who was in a bedroom.

The offenders looked through dresser drawers, prompting the homeowner in the bedroom to yell and call 911, police said.

The offenders inside the residence then exited the home. They are described as three adult black males.

One offender was heavyset, approximately 6-foot tall and wearing a reflective safety vest.

The second offender was also described as heavyset and approximately 6-foot tall. The third offender was described as smaller, approximately 5-foot-7.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Libertyville Police Department.
