State police say that a 42-year-old man from Highwood died Tuesday after driving his SUV off Interstate 94 in Cook County and into a lagoon.

The Illinois State Police and Northbrook Fire Department responded around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to Interstate 94 northbound at Dundee Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Troopers arrived to find a black 2016 Land Rover Discovery that had driven off the interstate, crashed through a fence and came to a rest in water.

A preliminary investigation showed the Land Rover was traveling northbound on Interstate 94 south of Dundee Road.

The driver of the Land Rover, a 42-year-old man, lost control of his vehicle and drove off the right side of the roadway.

The Land Rover was submerged in approximately three feet of water off the right side of the roadway, state police said.
