A teenager was flown to the hospital by a medical helicopter after he was shot near Yeoman Park in Waukegan Tuesday afternoon.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 4:05 p.m. Tuesday to Yeoman Park, 630 Yeoman Street in Waukegan, for a report of a shooting.
Paramedics arrived to find one victim, who had been shot in his abdomen and wrist, according to fire department radio traffic.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the actual shooting occurred in the 1500 block of Lydia Street, in the street or sidewalk area.
The victim appeared to have walked or run across a footbridge that leads from the 1500 block of Lydia Street to the south end of Yeoman Park.
Paramedics transported the victim, who Florip said was a juvenile in his late teens, to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was called and landed at the hospital’s helipad.
The helicopter transported the teen to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for further treatment.
Florip said he did not have an update on the victim’s condition. He said the case remains open and active.
A motive was not released for the shooting and it is unknown if any suspects have been identified.
