A Woodstock man is facing felony charges after allegedly attacking another man with a large knife, causing severe injuries to the victim’s hand during a struggle over the knife.

Joshua A. Brown, 21, of the 700 block of Prairie View Lane in Woodstock, was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated domestic battery, reckless conduct causing great bodily harm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Brown swung a large knife and repeatedly thrusted the knife at a man, who lives with Brown.

The victim, fearing for his life, tried taking the knife from Brown and a struggle ensued, the complaint said.

The victim had his hands around the knife, but Brown pulled it from the victim’s hands. The victim sustained severe lacerations to both of his hands.

The complaint said the victim received approximately 40 stitches and had to be treated by a specialist in order to regain use of his thumb.

The incident occurred on October 29 and officers with the Woodstock Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Brown on Wednesday.

Brown was taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Jail on Thursday, records show.

A judge ordered Brown held on a $47,500 bond. Brown’s public defender has filed a motion to reduce the bond.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
