A Spring Grove man is in critical condition after he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed while trying to pass a car in Lake Villa Friday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded around 5:20 p.m. Friday to Route 59 and Monaville Road in unincorporated Lake Villa.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies received a call for a traffic crash with injuries involving an ejected occupant.
Sheriffโs deputies arrived and located a 2001 Ford F-250 with major damage.
A preliminary investigation shows the Ford was traveling northbound on Route 59 when the driver, a 29-year-old Spring Grove man, attempted to pass another vehicle.
Due to the wet pavement, the driver lost control of the Ford and slid into the traffic light at the intersection, Covelli said.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle.
The man was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries.
Covelli said it also appears the driver of the Ford was involved in a separate hit-and-run crash in the area of Route 59 and Wilson Road in Ingleside a short time prior.
Both crashes remain under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโs Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
