A teenager was hospitalized with minor injuries after the minivan he was driving hit a utility pole and rolled over near Crystal Lake Thursday morning.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 8:09 a.m. Thursday to the 5000 block of Edgewood Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Creighton said deputies received a call for a single-vehicle crash on Edgewood Road west of Route 31.
A preliminary investigation showed a tan 2004 Honda Odyssey was traveling westbound on Edgewood Road.
The Honda, driven by a 17-year-old Crystal Lake boy, drove off the roadway and struck a utility pole on the north side of the road.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was out of the Honda prior to first responders arriving.
Paramedics transported the driver to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash. No citations were issued.
Creighton said it is unknown what caused the teen to drive off the road.
ComEd was called to the scene to repair the damaged utility pole and low-hanging wires, which left area residents without power.
