Nicholas A. Kowalski, 22, of Waukegan.

A Waukegan man has been charged with causing great bodily harm to a 2-year-old after he allegedly punched the toddler, court documents show.

Nicholas A. Kowalski, 22, of the 1700 block of Golf Road in Waukegan, was charged with aggravated battery to a child causing bodily harm, two counts of domestic battery, criminal trespass to land, disorderly conduct and three counts of resisting a peace officer.

A criminal complaint filed in Lake County Circuit Court alleges that Kowalski punched a child on his body.

The incident happened on November 12 at an apartment in the 1700 block of Golf Road in Waukegan, court records show.

The 2-year-old boy, who is a family member of Kowalski, was later treated at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Lake Forest.

Officers with the Waukegan Police Department were called to the 100 block of North Chapel Street two days later after receiving a call that Kowalski was pounding on the window of the residence and trying to gain entry.

Kowalski, who remains held in the jail as of Monday, would have to post $7,500 to be released.
