Police say a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged after multiple shots were fired into a house in Harvard Monday evening.
Juan C. Popoca, 19, of the 300 block of South Park in Harvard, was charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony.
The Harvard Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Monday to the 700 block of West Metzen Street in Harvard for a report of a shooting.
Harvard Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said officers received numerous calls for multiple shots fired in the area.
Police officers arrived and discovered a residence in the 700 block of West Metzen Street that had been struck several times with an unknown type caliber weapon.
It was determined no occupants inside the residence had been injured during the incident, Bauman said.
“There is no immediate threat for other residents in the area,” Bauman said.
Officers arrested Popoca in connection with the incident around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He was transported to the McHenry County Jail where a judge ordered him held on a $75,000 bond.
A criminal complaint alleges that Popoca shot at the home while knowing it was occupied.
Court documents indicate that at least one additional suspect is outstanding.
The Harvard Police Department continues to actively investigate the shooting with the assistance of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
