Police say they are seeking the owner of a female dog that was struck and killed by a car in Lake Bluff Thursday evening.

The Lake Bluff Police Department responded around 7:38 p.m. Thursday to Route 43 and North Shore Drive in Lake Bluff for a vehicle crash.

The police department said they responded and found a vehicle that had struck a dog. The dog died at the scene.

“Unfortunately, the dog has passed away as a result of this accident. At this time we are still attempting to locate the dog’s owner to provide closure,” the department said in a social media post.

The dog was found with no collar or microchip.

It was a smaller female dog, possibly a pit bull or pit bull mix that is mostly light brown in color, police said.

The dog has a large white spot on its neck and chest and a small streak of white on the top of the muzzle.
