A man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl last year in McHenry County has been sentenced to 180 days in jail.
Miguel Salinas-Malvaes, 21, of the 10500 block of Route 173 in Capron, was indicted on charges of criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Court documents said that Salinas-Malvaes sexually assaulted a child by force in November 2020.
The victim was 13 years old at the time of the incident, which occurred in Harvard.
In mid-November, Salinas-Malvaes entered into a plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, court records show.
Salinas-Malvaes pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for his other charges being dismissed.
McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge approved the plea deal and sentenced Salinas-Malvaes to 180 days in jail and two years of probation.
Coppedge said in his sentencing order that the sentence “is necessary to deter others from committing the same crime.”
He also said that Salinas-Malvaes is likely to comply with the terms of his probation upon release from jail.
Salinas-Malvaes will be released from the McHenry County Jail on February 26 after receiving credit for time already served before his sentence, jail records show.
Salinas-Malvaes will also have to pay $3,414 in court fines and fees as part of his sentence.
