Police arrested a man who allegedly beat a woman with a loaded gun in Antioch and then threatened to kill himself and the woman Sunday evening.
The Antioch Police Department received a call around 8 p.m. Sunday for a domestic disturbance involving a firearm on Bridgewood Drive in Antioch.
The female victim told police she was involved in a domestic disturbance with her boyfriend.
She reported that her boyfriend struck her multiple times with a firearm, according to the Antioch Police Department.
The boyfriend, later identified as 41-year-old Jason John, attempted to force the woman into the home’s basement while threatening to kill them both, police said.
The victim was able to escape the residence and call 911.
Police took John, who is an Antioch resident, into custody without incident.
Officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, which was believed to have been used during the incident.
The victim sustained minor injuries during the attack and declined medical treatment, police said.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of domestic battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm without a FOID card and possession of ammunition without a FOID card.
John appeared before a Lake County judge Monday morning in bond court and was ordered held in the Lake County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
