A man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly attacked his family members and then elbowed and headbutted responding police officers in Marengo.

Jairo C. Vargas, 27, of the 1200 block of North State Street in Marengo, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer, aggravated battery of a victim 60 years or older, four counts of domestic battery and two counts of resisting a peace officer.

The Marengo Police Department responded around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday to a domestic battery call, court records show.

A criminal complaint alleges Vargas shoved a female family member, who is over 60 years old, to the ground, causing her to suffer a minor wrist injury.

Vargas also allegedly punched a male family member in the face, causing him to suffer a laceration to his lip, the complaint said.

The complaint said that when officers arrived, Vargas struck one of the officers in the face with his left elbow.

Vargas used his head to strike another officer in the face, the complaint said.

Officers attempted to arrest the man but he pushed back using his body to resist and pulled his arms away, the complaint added.

Vargas was transported to the McHenry County Jail where he remains held on a $50,000 bond. He would need to post $5,000 cash in order to be released.

A bond hearing and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 21
