Advocate Aurora Health, which operates hospitals throughout the Chicago area, placed a full-page newspaper ad urging people to get vaccinated, saying that the majority of their patients are unvaccinated.

“We can’t stop COVID without you,” the full-page newspaper ad read.

“Beds are full. Wait times are long. And the strain on our health care, undeniable. The doctors, nurses and countless others who have so skillfully and compassionately cared for our communities are hurting,” the ad said.

The ad ran in the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, along with other newspapers, on Sunday.

Advocate Aurora Health said that more than 90% of all COVID inpatients are unvaccinated or due for a booster.

“This is preventable. And it’s up to all of us to help. Because if we don’t, it’s going to get even harder for you and your family and friends to get help when you need it most,” the ad said.

“The power is in your hands. Together, let’s stop COVID,” the ad said.

Advocate Aurora Health said in a statement that they currently have nearly three times more COVID-19 patients at their 26 hospitals across Illinois and Wisconsin than they did eight weeks ago.

“If you are vaccinated, the likelihood of needing to be hospitalized is dramatically down, that’s the message I’d like to get out there,” Mary Beth Kingston, the health system’s chief nursing officer, told NBC Chicago.
