A young couple helped a woman escape her home that caught fire and spread to a neighboring home early Saturday morning in Buffalo Grove.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 1:45 a.m. Saturday to the 400 block of Glendale Road in Buffalo Grove for a report of a structure fire.
Police officers arrived to find heavy flames coming from the garage of the home.
The fire eventually spread to the home and then to the next-door neighbor’s home.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.
Two cars that were in the car of the original fire building were a complete loss. A car in the driveway also sustained damage.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Palatine, Long Grove, Wheeling, Prospect Heights and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods fire departments responded to the scene to assist.
The Park Ridge, Rolling Meadows, Barrington-Countryside, Wauconda and Grayslake fire departments helped cover calls in Buffalo Grove.
ABC7 Chicago reported that 20-year-old Bryan Lucero was driving by with his girlfriend when they noticed the blaze.
“I told my girlfriend, ‘stop the car, you call 911 and I’ll go wake them [the residents] up,'” Lucero said.
Lucero said he pounded on the front door of the home until the resident was able to get out safely, ABC7 reported.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department has not said if anyone was injured or provided a damage estimate.
