Officials said approximately $100,000 in damage was caused after a garage with vehicles and machinery became engulfed in flames Saturday near Marengo.

The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded around 2:47 p.m. Saturday to the 3300 block of Vermont Road in Seneca Township, which is between Woodstock and Marengo.

Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said firefighters received a call for a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived seven minutes later and confirmed a working fire in a detached garage.

No other structures were close by to the garage.

Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line while simultaneously establishing a rural water supply at the roadway due to a lack of fire hydrants.

The fire was considered under control within 30 minutes, Vucha said.

The garage and contents are considered a total loss with initial damage estimates of $100,000.
