Authorities have identified a 42-year-old man who died after he reportedly laid down in the roadway and was struck by two vehicles near Mundelein Sunday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 10:50 p.m. Sunday to Route 60-83 and Taylor Lake Court in unincorporated Mundelein.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies received a report of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and confirmed the pedestrian, a 42-year-old Mundelein man, was deceased.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the man on Monday as Brett Mild.
A preliminary investigation shows Mild, who was wearing dark, non-contrasting clothing, just left a bar in the area and was likely walking home, Covelli said.
For an unknown reason, the man laid down in the southbound lane of Route 60-83, Covelli said.
A southbound Honda Accord, driven by a 21-year-old Mundelein man, struck Mild.
A southbound Nissan Murano, driven by a 34-year-old Volo man, also struck the man right after the first collision.
The drivers of the Honda and Nissan were uninjured.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and has scheduled an autopsy on Mild for Tuesday.
Sheriff’s crash investigators responded and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, Covelli said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
