Police are asking the public for help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that slammed into multiple parked cars in Wauconda and then fled the scene, nearly hitting a truck head-on.
Aric Klemp shared a video of the incident with Lake and McHenry County Scanner and said the incident occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday at John’s Complete Auto Service, 221 South Main Street Street in Wauconda.
Wauconda Police Department Sgt. Heather Cognac said a black vehicle, believed to be a Hyundai Veloster, was traveling westbound on Barrington Road near Main Street.
The Hyundai left the roadway and collided with three vehicles that were parked at the business.
The offending vehicle left the scene and began traveling in the wrong lanes, nearly striking a box truck head-on.
The Hyundai, which is believed to be a 2014-2017 model, continued eastbound on Route 176 toward Fairfield Road.
The offending vehicle has heavy damage to the front end and rear driver’s side quarter panel, Cognac said.
There was also airbag deployment during the crash. Injuries to the driver are unknown at this time.
The Wauconda Police Department is requesting the help of the community to identify the black vehicle and its driver.
