Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canine Dax helped locate an armed suicidal man who went missing in Antioch early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Dax and his canine handler Deputy John Forlenza were requested around 2 a.m. Tuesday to assist another agency, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

The two responded to a call of a 31-year-old man who was missing and endangered in the 900 block of Forest View Way in Antioch, Covelli said.

The man, who was in mental crisis, fled from his home on foot while not wearing warm clothing, the sheriff’s office said.

The man had made statements of self-harm and was armed with a knife.

Dax and Forlenza arrived and started an immediate track. After about a mile, Dax located the man in a forest preserve.

The man was safely transported to an area hospital to receive the help and support he needed, the sheriff’s office said.
