A Mundelein man was arrested at Advocate Condell Medical Center after police say he brought a gun to the hospital and refused to leave.

Juan L. Avila, 24, of the 800 block of Walnut Street in Mundelein, was charged with two counts of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The Libertyville Police Department responded around 7:10 p.m. last Sunday to Advocate Condell Medical Center, 801 South Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, for a man with a gun call.

Security reported that Avila came to the hospital with a friend who needed treatment, according to a police report.

Avila refused to leave after being informed of Condell’s visitor restrictions due to COVID-19, the report said.

Officers arrived and found Avila outside of the emergency room entrance.

He was detained and determined to be in possession of a handgun, police said.
