A 30-year-old man was seriously injured after being shot while he was driving in Gurnee on Friday, police and sources said.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 3:30 p.m. Friday to BP gas station at Hunt Club Road and Washington Street.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said officers received a call for a victim who had been shot.

When officers arrived, Gurnee Fire Department paramedics were tending to the victim at the gas station, Gaylor told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

The man was reportedly driving when he was shot. He drove to the BP gas station and called 911.

The victim’s vehicle, a black pickup truck, had multiple bullet holes in the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for his injuries, Gaylor said.

A source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the victim, a 30-year-old male, was shot once in his back and has serious injuries from the wound.

Police detectives are actively investigating the incident. The victim remains hospitalized and is recovering, Gaylor said.
