A woman was seriously injured and taken to the hospital by medical helicopter following a crash on Monday in Woodstock, fire officials said.

The Woodstock Police Department and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 1:22 p.m. to an area near Turning Point, 11019 Route 14 in Woodstock.

Alex Vucha, a spokesman for the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, said crews received a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.

Firefighters arrived and located two vehicles off the roadway in the westbound ditch, Vucha said.

The vehicles had sustained moderate to heavy damage. Both drivers were the sole occupants in their vehicles.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was called to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock.

An ambulance transported a female driver to the helipad and the helicopter transported the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Vucha said the woman suffered serious injuries. Her condition was not immediately available.

A second person was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock Hospital with minor injuries.

Westbound Route 14 was closed for approximately 45 minutes during the incident.

The Woodstock Police Department is investigating the crash.
