An Arlington Heights man was charged after he traveled to McHenry County to allegedly have sex with a person who he believed to be a child, court documents said.

Jose Sanchez-Vargas, 33, of the 900 block of West Rand Road in Arlington Heights, was charged with traveling to meet a minor, indecent solicitation of a child and grooming.

Sanchez-Vargas allegedly communicated over the internet with a person who he believed to be a child, according to a criminal complaint.

Sanchez-Vargas traveled to Crystal Lake on January 14 with the intent to commit a sex offense with the child, the complaint said.

He was arrested by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Human Trafficking Task Force and processed at the Crystal Lake Police Department that afternoon.

Sanchez-Vargas appeared remotely for a bond hearing on January 19.

He was appointed a public defender for bail determination only.

Sanchez-Vargas remains held at the McHenry County Jail on a $30,000 bond. He would have to post $3,000 cash to be released.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
