A fundraiser was started to support a family after a crash in Round Lake Beach killed the father and left the mother and children hospitalized Tuesday evening.

The GoFundMe was organized on Friday for the Camarena family.

Epifanio Camarena, 41, of Round Lake, was killed and six others were injured in a serious crash at Route 83 and Lexington Drive in Round Lake Beach around 8:33 p.m. Tuesday.

Camarena’s wife and children were among those hospitalized. The 5-year-old son is in very serious condition, Carlos Hernandez said in the GoFundMe.

Funds will be used to help with funeral expenses and support the family.

Almost 200 donors raised over $8,000 dollars as of Saturday morning.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a sheriff’s deputy on patrol happened to come upon the scene immediately following the crash.

Covelli said the deputy found a child with major injuries. The child was unconscious and not breathing.

The deputy performed CPR on the child until paramedics with the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District arrived and took over care.

Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Wayne Wilde said officers arrived to find a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and 2012 Chevrolet Silverado involved in the intersection. Both vehicles had heavy damage.

Camarena, the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said Wednesday afternoon that preliminary examination results indicate Camarena died from multiple blunt force injuries from the crash.

Six others, including the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, were transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Wilde said.

Passengers in the Chevrolet Equinox included a 44-year-old woman and four children.
