Firefighters quickly extinguished a private ambulance that caught on fire in Barrington Friday afternoon.

The Barrington Fire Department responded around 12:30 p.m. Friday to East Main Street and Cold Springs Road in Barrington for a report of a vehicle fire.

Barrington Assistant Fire Chief Ed Hartman told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that crews arrived and found an A-TEC private ambulance on fire with no patient inside.

The driver of the ambulance attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful.

The fire was in the engine compartment of the ambulance, Hartman said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.

A-TEC Ambulance, Inc., based in Crystal Lake, serves ten major hospitals and over 100 nursing homes in Chicagoland, according to their website.

The fire remains under investigation, Hartman said.
