Police arrested a Gurnee man after he allegedly beat a woman with his fist, hit her with a handgun and strangled her in Round Lake Beach, court documents show.

Andrew G. Espino, 23, of the 3500 block of Keith Avenue in Gurnee, was charged with aggravated domestic battery using a deadly weapon, aggravated domestic battery strangulation and two counts of domestic battery.

Court records show Espino was arrested on January 15 by officers with the Round Lake Beach Police Department.

A criminal complaint filed in Lake County Circuit Court alleges Espino was in possession of a Stoeger pistol on January 15.

Espino allegedly used the handle of the pistol to beat his girlfriend, the complaint said.

Espino also allegedly used his fists to strike the woman in her face, head and body, according to the complaint.

At one point, Espino allegedly strangled the woman by putting his hands onto her neck, the complaint added.

The incident occurred at a residence in the 1500 block of Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake Beach.

During a bond hearing, Lake County Judge Daniel Jasica ordered Espino held in the Lake County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

Jasica also ordered that Espino surrender his Firearm Owners Identification Card and not possess any firearms should he be released on bond.

Espino was released from the jail after posting $30,000 cash on January 19, court records show.

Lake County Judge Paul Novak said in a court order that Espino is allowed to attend trade school in Chicago and attend military reserve service in Joilet while he is out on bond.

Court documents indicate Espino is a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Espino is scheduled to appear in court again on February 9 for a status of preliminary hearing.
