Police arrested five suspects who fled to Chicago after burglarizing gas stations in Lincolnshire and Riverwoods early Tuesday morning.
The Riverwoods Police Department received a call of a burglar alarm around 3:06 a.m. Tuesday at the Mobil gas station, located at Deerfield Road and Saunders Road.
Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno said officers arrived and found entry had been gained through a broken window.
Security video showed multiple suspects arriving in a gray Jeep and making entry, Dayno said.
The suspects stole cash and merchandise. They also attempted to move the ATM machine without success.
A short time later, while officers were still at the scene, they were made aware of a burglary in progress at a gas station in Lincolnshire, Dayno said.
That incident involved the same suspects, who were in the gray Jeep. The Jeep had recently been reported stolen.
The Jeep fled the gas station southbound on Milwaukee Avenue in Lincolnshire.
The car was tracked by multiple police agencies to the 4700 block of North Sacramento Avenue in Chicago.
Officers arrested five suspects. The investigation is continuing, Dayno said.
