Police say one person was transported to the hospital after a car rolled over during a collision with a jackknifed semi-truck on Interstate 94 near Wadsworth.
The Newport Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police responded around 12:14 p.m. Wednesday to Interstate 94 westbound at mile marker 1 for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Illinois State Police District 15 troopers arrived to find a two-vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle, according to a police spokesperson.
A preliminary investigation showed the truck tractor semi-trailer jackknifed in the roadway on Interstate 94.
The truck struck the front driver’s side of a red mid-size SUV, the police spokesperson said.
The SUV rolled over onto its roof and came to a rest off the interstate on the frontage road. The semi-truck also ended up off the interstate.
The driver of the SUV was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured and no one else was transported to the hospital.
The Newport Fire Protection District warned the public to be careful with the changing winter weather following the incident.
“The road conditions can change rapidly. Always keep alert to others around you,” the department said.
