A man in his 30s was seriously injured after he was shot inside a building in downtown Waukegan early Tuesday morning.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 6 a.m. to the 100 block of North Genesee Street in Waukegan.

Officials received a call for a report of a male that was bleeding on the top floor of the building.

Police and paramedics arrived to find the male victim had been shot, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip.

Florip said the victim is a Waukegan man in his 30s.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

A source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the man had multiple internal injuries due to the bullet going through his shoulder and into his chest area.

The man was in serious condition after surgery, the source said.

No suspects are in custody, Florip said Thursday. The investigation into the shooting remains open and active.
