An elderly man was hospitalized after he became pinned underneath his own vehicle in McHenry after police say he forgot to put the vehicle in “park.”

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry Police Department responded around 8:40 a.m. Friday to the 5100 block of Greenbrier Drive in McHenry.

McHenry Deputy Police Chief Thomas Walsh said a passerby reported that a male was trapped under a vehicle.

Emergency crews arrived and found the victim pinned between the driver’s side of a vehicle door and a snowbank.

An investigation determined the 82-year-old man had exited his 2019 Honda Civic without shifting it into park.

The vehicle rolled backward down the driveway and dragged the victim, Walsh said.

The vehicle came to a stop at the end of the driveway while pinning the victim between the driver’s door and a snowbank.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District personnel extricated the victim and transported him to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

Walsh said he did not know the condition of the victim or the extent of the victim’s injuries.

An attempt to reach the McHenry Township Fire Protection District was unsuccessful Tuesday.
