A man died after firefighters rescued him from inside a house fire early Friday morning in Lake Forest, fire officials said.

The Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 1 a.m. Friday to the 200 block of Noble Avenue in Lake Forest.

Police officers arrived and found smoke coming from the residence. They also found one person who was still inside the home.

Lake Forest Fire Chief Peter Siebert said firefighters rescued a disabled man from the home and he was in cardiac arrest.

Paramedics transported the man to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Lake Forest where he was pronounced dead, Siebert said.

Firefighters pulled a hose line but did not flow any water due to the small nature of the fire.

The fire was contained to a garbage can. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Siebert said.
