Police are investigating after two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle, leaving both of them with serious injuries Sunday evening in Waukegan.
The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 9:30 p.m. Sunday to Jackson Street and Glen Rock Avenue for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported that the crash involved a vehicle that struck two pedestrians.
Police officers arrived to find a male victim lying in the roadway, according to a summary police report.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said the man, who is in his 40s and a Waukegan resident, suffered serious injuries.
The man was unconscious and had suffered a significant head injury, the police report said. Paramedics began lifesaving measures on him.
A second victim, a Waukegan woman in her 30s, also had serious injuries, Florip said.
Paramedics with the Waukegan Fire Department transported both victims to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
The male victim is in critical condition while the female victim’s condition has been stabilized.
The silver 2006 Toyota Corolla involved, which had heavy damage to its windshield, remained at the scene.
Florip said the driver immediately pulled over following the collision and called 911.
The driver, a Waukegan man in his 30s, is cooperating with police and has been released pending further investigation.
The Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit was called to the scene to conduct a crash investigation.
