No one was hurt after a man lost control of his vehicle and crashed into gas pumps, causing a fire at a gas station in Waukegan Friday afternoon.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 12:20 p.m. Friday to the Citgo, 2135 North Green Bay Road.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said the driver of a 2004 Jeep Cherokee lost control of his vehicle while traveling near Green Bay Road and Sunset Avenue.

The driver was able to maneuver into the parking lot of the Citgo gas station where he struck a gas pump, Florip said.

The gas pump and front end of the vehicle caught on fire and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

Florip said the incident possibly began due to a mechanical failure in the Jeep.

The driver, a North Chicago man in his 40s, was not issued any citations.
