A Waukegan woman was seriously injured and two others were also transported to the hospital following a head-on crash in Gurnee Sunday afternoon.
The Gurnee Fire Department and Gurnee Police Department responded around 1:40 p.m. Sunday to Washington Street and Greenleaf Street for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Officers located a 2019 black Dodge Durango and a 2008 silver Chevrolet HHR with extensive damage, Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said.
Based on the initial investigation, the driver of the Dodge was traveling eastbound on Washington Street approaching the intersection of Greenleaf Street.
The Chevrolet was traveling westbound on Washington Street attempting to turn south onto Greenleaf Street.
The Chevrolet turned left through the intersection and collided head-on with the Dodge, Gaylor said.
The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet, a 62-year-old Waukegan woman, sustained serious injuries.
She received life-saving measures from Gurnee Fire Department paramedics at the scene, Gaylor said.
The woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center for further treatment and remains in the hospital.
The two occupants of the Dodge, a 34-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, both from Round Lake, were transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan with minor injuries.
The intersection remained closed for approximately three hours while investigators with the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) assisted with the crash investigation.
The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department and MCAT.
