A woman suffered life-threatening injuries and a man suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash on Route 83 near Mundelein Wednesday evening.

The Mundelein Fire Department, Countryside Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:20 p.m. to Route 83 between Winchester Road and Creekwood Drive in unincorporated Mundelein.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies were dispatched to a head-on crash.

Deputies arrived to find two vehicles, a BMW 435i and a Chevrolet Silverado, both with heavy damage.

A preliminary investigation shows the BMW, driven by a 55-year-old Round Lake woman, was traveling southbound on Route 83 south of Winchester Road.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the BMW crossed the double yellow lines into the northbound lanes of traffic, Covelli said.

The BWM struck a northbound Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 58-year-old Mundelein man, head-on.
