Alan E. Christensen Jr., 25, of McHenry.

A McHenry man has pleaded guilty to burglarizing a home in Island Lake and stealing a tool set and saws from the homeowner, prosecutors said.

Alan E. Christensen Jr., 25, of the 1000 block of Bay Road in McHenry, was charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

The Island Lake Police Department responded on April 20 to the 300 block of Island Drive in Island Lake for a burglary in progress.

Officers were unable to locate anyone in the residence or around it, prosecutors said.

Witnesses were able to identify Christensen as the suspect who had entered the home and was seen leaving with large duffle bags, prosecutors said.

A further investigation showed that Christensen entered the home while the residents were not home.

Prosecutors said that the man stole a set of tools and saws belonging to the homeowner.

Christensen entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty to one count of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, in exchange for his theft charge being dismissed.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge approved the plea deal and sentenced Christensen to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Christensen will have to serve 50% of his sentence and will receive 288 days of credit for time served in jail prior to his sentence.
