A medical helicopter transported a man in serious condition to a hospital following a single-vehicle crash near Marengo Sunday morning, officials said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts responded around 7:51 a.m. Sunday to the 22500 block of West Grant Highway in unincorporated Marengo.

Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said crews received a report of a vehicle crash with an unconscious victim.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene within six minutes and located a single vehicle in the northern ditch of the roadway.

Vucha said paramedics determined the driver was in serious condition following the crash.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communications Specialist Emily Matusek said the crash is believed to be the result of a medical issue.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested to respond to the scene. The helicopter landed in a nearby field.

The male victim, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transferred to LifeNet and flown to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside in Rockford, Vucha said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash and Route 20 remained open for the duration of the incident, Vucha said.
