Steven N. Salzman, 58, of Arlington Heights.

An Arlington Heights man was charged after he allegedly punched a paramedic in the chest while being treated on Sunday in Harvard.

Steven N. Salzman, 58, of the 0-100 block of North Dryden Place in Arlington Heights, was charged with aggravated battery to a nurse, a Class 3 felony.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Salzman struck a male paramedic in the chest with a closed fist.

The paramedic is a member of the Harvard Fire Protection District, the complaint said.

Harvard Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said the incident occurred Sunday while at Mercyhealth Hospital in Harvard.

Salzman was getting medical care at the hospital, Bauman said.

Officers arrested Salzman after he was treated and transported him to the McHenry County Jail.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis ordered Salzman held in the McHenry County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

Salzman’s public defender has filed a request to reduce the man’s bond, saying he is unable to post the $2,000 cash needed for release.

Salzman is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a motion hearing.
