A 21-year-old man was hospitalized after he was shot while sitting in a car in a Zion neighborhood Monday afternoon, officials said.
The Zion Police Department and Zion Fire and Rescue Department responded around 1:50 p.m. Monday to the 4100 block of Douglas Drive in Zion for a shooting.
Zion Police Department Lt. Christopher Sweeting said a 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower leg.
The shooting left a vehicle hit by gunfire and at least one stray bullet struck a residence, Sweeting said.
Paramedics transported the man to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan for treatment.
Sweeting said the man’s condition has since been stabilized.
The man told officers he was sitting in a vehicle in front of the residence when the shooting occurred.
The investigation is ongoing and additional information was not immediately available for release, Sweeting said.
Last week, a 36-year-old man and a cat were both shot in a shooting at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of 20th Street in Zion. That incident left dozens of shots fired.
The Zion Police Department also recently conducted a crime suppression detail targeting the groups responsible for causing a surge in gun violence that began earlier this month.
Numerous people were charged in that detail, police said.
