Police are investigating a crash that left one driver dead and another driver injured on Route 41 in Highland Park Wednesday evening.

The Highland Park Police Department and Highland Park Fire Department responded around 7:44 p.m. Wednesday to Route 41 and Chantilly Boulevard.

Highland Park Deputy Police Chief William Bonaguidi said a traffic crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Route 41 north of Chantilly Boulevard.

Two vehicles were involved. One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene, Bonaguidi said.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported by ambulance to Highland Park Hospital with minor injuries.

There were no passengers in either vehicle. The name of the deceased victim will be released following an autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Bonaguidi said that a preliminary investigation shows the deceased driver’s vehicle left the roadway and struck the outside median.
