The coroner’s office has identified a 58-year-old man from Deerfield that died after his car was hit by another vehicle on Route 41 in Highland Park Wednesday.
Keith Jachim, 58, of Deerfield, died as a result of blunt force injuries sustained in a vehicle crash, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Stephen Newton.
The Highland Park Police Department and Highland Park Fire Department responded around 7:44 p.m. Wednesday to Route 41 and Chantilly Boulevard.
Highland Park Deputy Police Chief William Bonaguidi said a traffic crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Route 41 north of Chantilly Boulevard.
Two vehicles were involved. One of the drivers, identified as Jachim, was pronounced dead at the scene, Bonaguidi and Newton said.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported by ambulance to Highland Park Hospital with minor injuries.
There were no passengers in either vehicle. An autopsy was completed on Jachim on Friday.
Bonaguidi said that a preliminary investigation showed Jachim’s vehicle left the roadway and struck the outside median.
The man’s car re-entered the roadway and was struck by the second vehicle involved.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), which is comprised of specially trained investigators and reconstructionists, responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Northbound Route 41 at Clavey Road was shut down for several hours Wednesday evening.
The Lake County Coronerโs Office, Highland Park Police Crash Investigation Team and MCAT continue to investigate the incident.
