A man in the roadway on Route 41 in North Chicago was struck and killed by a car Sunday evening, authorities said.

The North Chicago Fire Department and North Chicago Police Department responded around 10:38 p.m. Sunday to Route 41 and Route 137 for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said the incident involved a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.

Officers arrived to locate a male subject in the roadway with fatal injuries.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, Newton said.

Due to the severity of the crash, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), which consists of area police departments, was called to the scene to conduct an investigation.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the family and an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Coroner’s Office, MCAT and the North Chicago Police Department.
