A homeless man was arrested after he allegedly punched a gas station employee in the face and spit on a police officer in Woodstock Thursday.
Calvin B. Thomas, 31, a transient of Woodstock, was charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer, a Class 2 felony, battery causing bodily harm and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said that Thomas was inside the Shell gas station, 155 South Eastwood Drive in Woodstock, just before 11 p.m. Thursday.
Thomas allegedly struck a gas station employee in the face two times with a closed fist, the complaint said.
Officers with the Woodstock Police Department responded to the scene and arrested Thomas for the battery.
Officers found Thomas in possession of a metal pipe used to inhale crack cocaine.
Thomas allegedly spit on an officer as the officer was attempting to place him inside the rear of the squad car, the complaint said.
Court records show Thomas is on conditional discharge for a case that occurred in December where he was convicted of punching someone in the face after being asked to leave a Woodstock business.
McHenry County Judge Thomas Meyer on Saturday ordered Thomas held in the McHenry County Jail on a $30,000 bond for his latest charges.
A court hearing is scheduled next for Wednesday.
