A 17-year-old boy remains hospitalized after he was shot and seriously injured inside an apartment building in Waukegan, police said.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 7 p.m. Monday to the area of Golf Road and Elmwood Avenue in Waukegan.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers located a victim with a gunshot wound at the intersection.

Officers located a scene on the second floor of an apartment building in the 1700 block of Golf Road.

Blood and shell casings were located in the second-floor hallway, Florip said.

Officers check all of the area apartments but no one else appeared to have been shot.

The victim, a 17-year-old male from Waukegan, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

The boy remains hospitalized Thursday after suffering serious injuries in the shooting. His condition has since been stabilized.
