One person had to be flown by medical helicopter to a trauma center after a three-vehicle crash in Crystal Lake that left a second person injured Friday.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Police Department responded just before 11 a.m. Friday to Northwest Highway and Sands Road for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Crystal Lake Police Department Commander Ryan Coutre told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the incident involved three vehicles.
A sedan was traveling westbound on Route 14 approaching Sands Road.
The sedan struck a minivan that was in the turn lane waiting to turn northbound on Sands Road, Coutre said.
The sedan then collided with a traffic signal pole and hit an SUV before coming to a rest.
Two victims sustained injuries believed to be non-life-threatening and were transported to area hospitals, Coutre said.
One of them was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.
A LifeNet helicopter then transported that victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to fire department radio traffic.
Coutre said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The roadway was shut down for approximately 60 minutes.
The traffic signal pole was still being repaired Friday afternoon, Coutre said.
