Clerks at 11 gas stations and other stores in Lake County were cited by the sheriff’s office after being caught selling tobacco or nicotine products to people under 21, authorities said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office last week concluded the first round of 2022 tobacco compliance checks.
The checks were conducted at businesses that sell tobacco or nicotine products in Lake County.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the compliance checks are intended to ensure businesses selling tobacco and nicotine products are not selling to anyone under the age of 21.
Of the 67 establishments checked, 11 of them failed the compliance check and 56 successfully completed the checks, Covelli said.
Greta N Heiser, the clerk of Mobil Gas at 39119 North Lewis Ave in Beach Park, and Asif A Sabri, the clerk of Monster Cloud Vape & Cigar at 27273 Volo Village Rd in Volo, were both cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a person under 21.
Margarita S Garcia, the clerk of the Phillips 66 at 41452 N Green Bay Rd in Wadsworth, and Kayla M Perez, the clerk of Love’s Truck Stop at 43100 N Route 41 in Wadsworth, were both cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a person under 21.
Brianna E Reid, the clerk of Above Standard Vape CBD Glass Smoke at 34080 N Route 45 in unincorporated Grayslake, and Prakash C Patel, the clerk of Gages Lake Food & Liquor at 18495 W Old Gages Lake Rd in unincorporated Grayslake, were both cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a person under 21.
Aamir Raza, the clerk of the Marathon Gas Station at 34238 N Route 45 in Third Lake, and Kiran P Singh, the clerk of the BP Gas Station at 36044 N Route 45 in unincorporated Lake Villa, were both cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a person under 21.
Mohammed Faizuddin, the clerk of the Mobil Gas Station at 18450 W Grand Ave in unincorporated Gurnee, and Mohammadreza Fathi, the clerk of 7-Eleven at 20502 Milwaukee Ave in unincorporated Deerfield, were both cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a person under 21.
Rachel A Maloney, the clerk of LB Mart at 5075 Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington, was cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a person under 21.
56 establishments in Wadsworth, Lake Barrington, Deer Park, Volo, Ingleside, Third Lake, Beach Park, and unincorporated Lake Villa, Grayslake, Antioch, Mundelein, Palatine, Lake Bluff, Deerfield and Lake Forest successfully completed their compliance checks.
The businesses checked include those within the jurisdiction of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office or communities which contract with the sheriff’s office for policing services, not those within municipal limits.
The compliance check detail was funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery.
