A man in his 20s was hospitalized after he was shot during a shooting where over 20 shots were fired in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 3:20 p.m. Monday to the 2700 block of Westwood Drive in Waukegan for a report of a shooting.

Officers found a man in his 20s who had been shot, Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

The victim told police that he was shot at by unknown suspects who were possibly in an SUV, Florip said.

Paramedics transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Florip said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. His condition has since been stabilized.

Police officers had placed more than 20 evidence markers over shell casings at the scene near a BMW SUV.

The BMW appeared to have over a dozen bullet holes on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
