A 15-year-old boy was transported to the hospital after he was shot by a suspect or suspects who were in a stolen vehicle in Waukegan, police said.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 3:05 p.m. Monday to the Barwell Manor Homes in the 500 block of South Genesee Street for a report of a shooting.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that one person was shot in the hand.

The victim was a 15-year-old boy who is a Waukegan resident.

Paramedics transported him to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect vehicle was a red GMC Terrain, which had been stolen out of Lake Zurich, Florip said.

Florip said the suspect or suspects involved fled from the GMC after abandoning it blocks away from the shooting.

No suspect information was available and the incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
