A 37-year-old man was hospitalized with critical injuries after he was thrown from his motorcycle when he drove off the roadway near Wauconda Tuesday evening.
The Wauconda Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Darrell Road and West Neville Road in unincorporated Wauconda.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that deputies arrived to find a motorcycle crashed in a field.
A preliminary investigation shows a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 37-year-old man of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, was traveling northbound on Darrell Road.
For an unknown reason, the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, Covelli said.
The motorcycle drove off the roadway into a ditch and struck a small tree.
Covelli said that the driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and critically injured.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
